How To Decorate An Old Cottage Dresser

There is something cosy to be said about a quaint cottage bedroom. From floral comforters, to soft antique pine chests and drawers, they omit a feeling of relaxation and ease. When we first purchased our home, funds were short. We had so many big dreams and knew that it would take a lot of patience and effort to enact our well-made plans. This darling French antique pine dresser was our first investment piece, and straight away became the heart and design inspiration for our country cottage-inspired bedroom.

Dating from the mid 19th Century, the dresser is in great working condition, and adds timeless character and modesty to the space. It is purposeful, with lots of storage for socks and sweaters, and features a clean golden top to showcase our collected home decor. You can find a lot of well-aged pine furniture for great prices, on sites like Marketplace and Etsy, and of course your local antique or vintage store.

I like to cover the base of my old drawers in floral-scented draw liners, as they freshen any unwanted musty smells that may be lingering. They also create a moment of colour and joy each time they are opened, all of which emphasize the heritage nature of a cottage-style home.

Artwork, a soft scented candle, and dried flowers sit above, centering the space. Though we have much still to do in our master bedroom, I enjoy practicing gratitude for the little things like these… So next time you are out thrifting, or scrolling on your phone, be sure to search cottage or pine furniture, as you never know what homely treasures you will find!
